Success Stories

WINSTON

He's about 4 ½ months old now but those photos were taken at Christmas, so he was just 3 months then. He's a little monkey, and we love him like crazy. He's a typical beagle in many ways (loves to cuddle and sleep with mom and dad, loves other dogs, has a great time being stubborn, lets his nose rule his brain) and atypical in others (doesn't go crazy over his food, doesn't get into the garbage, doesn't destroy his toys or destructively chew). He has a girlfriend named Lucy who lives next door. She's a 9 month border collie/lab mix. If they had their way they would spend every waking minute together. We always know when Lucy is out for a walk because Winston is crying at the door.

He is great with tricks and has learned how to "sit", "spin", "dance", "down", "roll over", "shake a paw", "high five" and even "stays" from short distances (we're still working on that one). He has great recall at the beach and big parks, and people always stop to congratulate us on how well he comes when called (being a beagle and all ;)). His big problem area though is walking on the leash. I think he likes being free at the dog park so much that he pulls us all the way there. It's very exhausting but we're dedicating most of our efforts now to teaching him how to "heel". He's much better on the way home than on the way there! Hopefully in another month or so he'll be striding along at a much less passionate pace! I just happened upon your web site while looking for beagle sites. I love all the photos and success stories. Hopefully all the dogs in the doggie database will find good homes soon! Here's to the love of beagles!

Cheers,

N.
